Meet Michael
I grew up not far from Albany. My parents were public school teachers. Public service was always an important value in my family and still is today.
For several years I worked in the Washington State Legislature and for the City of Vancouver WA. I believe in public policy that advances the common good.
Jolene and I were married at St. Mary's in Albany. We have a daughter who is in Middle School. Since her pre-Kindergarten days we have partnered with her teachers to guide in her schooling.
Inspired by our faith, my wife and I place an importance on service to others. We have been active in the Albany community, both of us serving on City of Albany Boards and Commissions as well as volunteering our time with local non-profit organizations.
After serving for many years as an officer with the Takena-Central PTA, I won a spot on the Greater Albany School Board in 2019. In my time on the Board, we were able to lower class size, eliminate sports & activity fees and pass an educational equity policy to help every student succeed.
It was a privilege to work on behalf of the residents of ward 1, by strengthening our wonderful neighborhood schools. Regretfully, outside special interests ran a big money campaign against me. At the end of the day, it was meaningful to know that the vast majority of Ward 1 supported me still, despite the deceptive hit pieces
In addition to long service in the West and North Albany areas, Michael has spent over 10 years on City advisory committees (including Budget), I have by far the most City government experience in this race. That experience will help me advocate for my neighbors in Ward 1.
